Air Layering Brugmansia
On some cultivars, air layering a stem from a temperamental cultivar — rather than taking a cutting, is preferred.
Wrap the peatpot with cling film and fill with sterile potting mix. Water this peatpot from time to time but keep barely damp. Don’t overwater.
In a few weeks, you should see the roots growing.
For this reason using cling film is better than aluminum foil.
Now you can clearly see the new roots.
Take Away the film.
Cut the trunk below the peatpot.
The cut/wound should be disinfected with wound wax for trees or with charcoal powder.
Repot the whole peatpot.
Do not remove the peatpot, it would destroy many of the young new roots.
Now you’re ready! You have a large new brug with a strong trunk and some “Y’s”. In a few weeks you will have your first flowers.
Please keep this young brug in a greenhouse or in light shade for a few weeks. It needs some time to get more roots.
