Brugmansia cultivar register

This is a comprehensive world-wide database and register of Brugmansia cultivar names, colour-coded according to their nomenclatural status under the 2009 International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants.

It includes information, where available, on hybrid parentage, species heritage, brief description of the form and colour of the flowers, the names of those who raised the cultivars, year of release, country of origin and where and when the names were published. Each name is linked, where possible, to one or more images in our galleries.

Our database is searchable on multiple combinations of criteria. To find more details about each cultivar, please click on its name, and click on the thumbnails to expand the images.

Our database is the result of collaborative efforts of former and current BGI members researching and submitting information on hundreds of known Brugmansia over the years. Recently it has been enhanced by incorporating data and notes from the appendixes of the recently published book Huanduj - Brugmansia by Alistair Hay, Monika Gottschalk and Adolfo Holguín (Florilegium, Sydney and Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, 2012). We in particular thank Monika Gottschalk, who has carried out meticulous Brugmansia cultivar research over many years, for permission to use the data. And a very big Thank You! to Alistair Hay for helping input and edit the data.

The BGI administration and membership is committed to the development and dissemination of quality resource materials on growing, propagation, and hybridization of Brugmansia. In keeping with this philosophy, the BGI administration feels that this compilation of Brugmansia cultivar information should be continually updated and made available to all growers to preserve information that may prove critical in the development of improved hybrids in the future. We therefore acknowledge ongoing external sources of publicly available information on newly named Brugmansia cultivars, including the Deutsche Dahlien-, Fuchsien- und Gladiolen-Gesellschaft, the International Brugmansia and Datura Society, Fuchsienfreunde, Dave's Garden and a number of on-line nurseries world-wide.

We encourage you to use and share the information in our database, and hope that you will continue to look to BGI as being a most comprehensive source for support in the growing of Brugmansia. We welcome being informed of any errors or omissions in the data, so that we can be confident of maintaining accuracy and comprehensiveness.
